Optical coating manufacturing environment

Dichroic & Mirror Coatings

We manufacture dichroic coatings, dielectric laser mirrors and broadband metallic reflectors for wavelength separation, beam steering and laser cavities. Our coating services support custom designs and customer-furnished optics, with engineering, deposition and spectral verification available from prototype through production.

Coating Capabilities

Dichroic Coatings

Dichroic designs selectively reflect one spectral region while passing another, including hot and cold mirror configurations. We develop these coatings for spectral separation and laser harmonic routing.

One harmonic-separator design operates at 45°, with reflectance above 99.8% for both s- and p-polarization at 515 and 532 nm. At 1030 and 1064 nm, reflectance is below 5% for s-polarization and below 2% for p-polarization.

Dielectric Laser Mirrors

Our multilayer dielectric mirrors are available for selected laser wavelengths and wavelength bands. A dual-wavelength turning-mirror design provides reflectance above 99.9% at both 532 and 1064 nm, for s- and p-polarization at 45°.

Protected and Enhanced Metallic Mirrors

We offer protected and enhanced silver and aluminum coatings for broadband reflection. Protected silver designs include reflectance above 98% across 600–1000 nm.

For diode-laser scanning, an enhanced-silver design provides unpolarized reflectance above 99.3% over 805–940 nm at 22°–58°, while retaining reflectance above 50% over 630–670 nm.

Low-Loss Mirror Manufacturing

Our low-loss mirrors combine premium-polished, plane or spherically curved fused-silica substrates with magnetron-sputtered or ion-beam-sputtered coatings. RMS surface roughness of ≤0.15 nm helps control scattering. Coating purity and stoichiometry are also important to reducing absorption, particularly in mirrors for cavity ring-down spectroscopy and precision frequency measurements.

A representative 1030 nm design uses a magnetron-sputtered coating on a plano-concave fused-silica substrate with a 1000 mm radius of curvature. At 0° incidence, this design has reflectance above 99.9985%, transmission of approximately 5 ppm, absorption below 1 ppm and scattering of approximately 4 ppm.

Supporting Capabilities

  1. Custom coating fixtures — In-house CNC machining produces fixtures matched to component geometry, with tooling inspected and fit-checked to preserve substrate integrity and maximize coating area.
  2. Spectral documentation — Calculated coating curves are followed by measured spectra and raw data, supporting comparison of the proposed design with the manufactured coating.
  3. High-reflectance verification — Cavity ring-down measurements resolve mirror reflectance at ppm levels. Transmission and absorption measurements help account for the coating’s optical losses.
